FIFA President Gianni INFANTINO met with Eric FOK, JP, the Chairman of The Football Association of Hong Kong, China (HKFA) on July 29, Monday in the FIFA office in Paris, to discuss the football development of Hong Kong.
Mr. INFANTINO expressed great delight at the meeting "Past and Future football development collaborations and projects were discussed" He specifically mentioned that the HKFA has been making excellent use of the FIFA Forward funds, particularly to incorporate technology into football operations, with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) introduced last season which has been extended to women's and youth tournaments.
Mr. INFANTINO also mentioned that the importance of football education and school programmes was discussed during the meeting, so that football can reach more children.
Mr. FOK said that during the meeting, he introduced the history of Hong Kong football and recent achievements, including the Hong Kong, China Representative Team reaching the Asian Cup again after more than half a century, and making a historic appearance in the semi-finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Mr. FOK continued that he felt honored and benefited a lot from the meeting with Mr. INFANTINO, they discussed that how technology can raise the level of the game and therefore attract more spectators which can help develop football as an industry in Hong Kong. He added, football education and school programmes help to stimulate interest, cultivate new talents, and promote "popularisation", "The above two points are the goals that Hong Kong football is striving towards."
