BC Rangers met up with HKFC in Tai Po Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for the 2024-25 HKFA Senior Shield Quarter-finals. BC Rangers beat HKFC by 1:0 and promoted to Semi-finals.

The match kicked off with BC Rangers showing early intent. Chang Kwong Yin whipped in a dangerous cross from the right flank, but Lau Chi Lok's header failed to trouble the keeper. HKFC responded in the 16th minute, with Daniel Scally cutting inside from the left wing and unleashing a right-footed effort that sailed over the crossbar.

As the first half wore on, BC Rangers continued to probe. In the 23rd minute, Barak Braunshtain embarked on a surging run through the heart of midfield before unleashing a long-range strike that whistled just wide of the upright. The deadlock was finally broken on the stroke of half-time when Yiu Ho Ming stepped up to take a free-kick from the edge of the box. His well-struck effort found the top corner, leaving the HKFC keeper rooted to the spot.

HKFC thought they had equalized moments before the interval when Daniel Scally coolly slotted home after a defense-splitting through ball. However, the linesman's flag was raised for offside, much to the dismay of the HKFC faithful.

The second half saw HKFC come out all guns blazing. Gustavo Henrique rose highest to meet a corner kick, but his powerful header was expertly claimed by the BC Rangers goalkeeper. The onslaught continued as Lai Hoi To tested the keeper's reflexes with a stinging drive in the 49th minute.

BC Rangers weathered the storm and nearly doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute. Yiu Ho Ming's inswinging corner caused havoc in the HKFC box, with Suganuma Shunya's close-range effort somehow kept out in a goalmouth scramble.

As the clock ticked down, both sides traded blows in search of a crucial goal. Chen Hao squandered a golden opportunity for HKFC, firing wide when one-on-one with the keeper, Gustavo Hnerique slotted the rebound into the net, but once again the offside flag denied HKFC an equalizer.

BC Rangers weren't content to sit on their lead, with Lau Chi Lok rounding the keeper only to be thwarted by the side netting from an acute angle. HKFC's hopes of a comeback were dealt a severe blow in the 75th minute when Toby Down received his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card.

Despite being a man down, HKFC continued to press. Chen Hao delivered an inviting cross to the unmarked Jesus Salazar, but he couldn't find the target. In the dying moments, BC Rangers nearly put the game to bed as Barak Braunshtain's audacious chip from outside the area rattled the crossbar.

As the final whistle blew, BC Rangers held on to their slender advantage, securing a hard-fought victory and a coveted spot in the Senior Shield semi-final.
