2022-23 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League – Kitchee 4:0 Wofoo Tai Po

Kitchee hosted Wofoo Tai Po in Mongkok Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the last remaining BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the weekend. Goals from Ruslan Mingazov, Cleiton Velasques and Roberto Affonso, plus an own goal from Wofoo Tai Po’s Fung Kwun-ming, saw Kitchee toppled the New Territories side through a 4:0 victory.

Kitchee wasted no time and applied immediate pressure to the Wofoo Tai Po goal, shortly after the opening whistle. On the 8th minute, Ruslan Mingazov connected with a teammate’s corner-kick delivery but headed the ball over the crossbar.

The home side went on and opened the score on the 19th minute. Dejan Damjanovic found himself on the receiving end of a teammate’s center pass and headed the ball towards the Wofoo Tai Po goal. Goalkeeper Li Hon-ho got a hand on the ball but could not stop it from hitting the goal post. The Wofoo Tai Po defense failed to clear the ball away, allowing Kitchee’s Ruslan Mingazov to fire the ball into the net. Kitchee was up 1:0.

Kitchee continued to lay siege towards the Wofoo Tai Po net and came close to adding to its lead. On the 24th minute, Dejan Damjanovic unleashed a cracking shot from inside the box, forcing out a nice save from the charging Li Hon-ho in the Wofoo Tai Po goal.

Past the half hour mark, the home side came up with another solid scoring chance. This time, Cleiton Velasques found enough opening near the top of the Wofoo Tai Po box and let rip, only to send his shot over the crossbar.

Right before the half time whistle, Wofoo Tai Po’s Luiz Dos Santos picked up the ball through a teammate’s long throw in and fired away, only to smash the ball high.

The first half ended with Kitchee enjoying a 1:0 lead over the visiting Wofoo Tai Po.

Shortly after the game resumed in the second half, Kitchee went on and netted another goal. Dejan Damjanovic teed up teammate Cleiton Velasques near the edge of the Wofoo Tai Po penalty area with a neat pass. Velasques duly unloaded a scotching shot and found the back of the Wofoo Tai Po net. It was now 2:0 for the home side.

On the hour mark, Kitchee made it 3:0, as Roberto Affonso converted a Cleiton Velasques cross and fired the ball home. Kitchee was gradually pulling away on the scoreboard.

A few moments later, Kitchee had a glorious chance to make it 4:0, yet veteran marksman Dejan Damjanovic failed to convert his penalty-kick. However, Kitchee was still leading by three goals at this point.

Kitchee built up a four-goal lead on the 81st minute, as Sagynbaev Bekzhan’s cross from the left wing was accidentally knocked into the Wofoo Tai Po net by Fung Kwun-ming. It was an unfortunate own goal by the Wofoo Tai Po player.

Late in the game, Kitchee had one more chance to add to its lead, yet Alexander Akande’s ferocious shot rung off the Wofoo Tai Po goal post and stayed out of the net.

The 4:0 stood all the way towards the final whistle, as Kitchee secured a commanding home victory over Wofoo Tai Po on Sunday evening.
