2022-08-24

The 2022-2023 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League will kick off on August 27, 2022, with 10 teams competing for the league champion and AFC Champions League spot through a double round robin format. In addition, the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) will organise three cup competitions this season, namely the FA Cup, Senior Shield and Sapling Cup, presenting many exciting matches for the fans.

The HKFA held a press conference in Kowloon Bay today which was attended by representatives of the 10 teams and details of the new season, sponsors and partners were introduced. In the new season, the HKPL is honoured to have BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (BOC Life) as our continued title sponsor, as well as the continuous support from Nike Hong Kong Limited.

HKFA Chairman Mr. PUI Kwan Kay thanked the support of BOC Life, sponsors and partners, and expressed his excitement towards the new football season. He said “Entering the 9th season of the HKPL, the 10 teams have been training hard over the summer and signed new players. The squads have become younger and more energetic. In addition, two district teams are returning to the top-tier league. I believe that the new season will be very competitive and hope that all teams will perform well.”

BOC Life Chief Brand and Communications Officer Ms. Vivienne CHIU said “Thanks to the concerted effort of the HKFA, clubs, players and partners, we are able to launch the 2022-2023 HKPL. We are delighted to see new forces injected into the teams, with younger and more energetic players. We believe that the matches will be more exciting and can't wait to see them.”

Nike Hong Kong Limited has always been a key player in promoting local football development and worked closely with the HKFA. Apart from being the official sponsor of the Hong Kong Representative Team, Nike will continue to sponsor ground staff gear in the new season and provide the newest NIKE FLIGHT as the official match ball. The NIKE FLIGHT football uses Aerowsculpt technology which disrupts airflow evenly across the entire ball for less drag and a more stable flight, thereby eliminating unpredictable movement in the air by 30%. The All Conditions Control technology allows the ball's surface to maintain the same level of touch and control on the ball in different conditions and venues. We believe that players' performance will be enhanced with this new match ball.

Furthermore, on.cc continued to obtain exclusive broadcasting rights for HKPL where fans may watch matches through its mobile application and website. On.cc will also collaborate with RTHK and TVB to broadcast HKPL and FA Cup matches on their free-to-air television channels. Meanwhile, the Facebook page “welovehkpl” of on.cc will continue to interact with football fans by providing live updates for matches, interviews of HKPL players and elections of “best goal” and “best save” etc.

Football Weekly will also continue to be HKFA's official promotion partner, reporting on local football from different angles through its magazine and online platform.
