Hong Kong Senior Team and U23 Representative Team Squad prepares for the Asian Cup and Asian Games

2022-04-14

The Hong Kong Representative Team and U23 Representative Team completed the first training session this morning (April 14, 2022). Mr. CHEUNG Kin Fung, Coach, thinks that being able to return to the pitch after three months brings a positive impact on the players. "The main goal of the training is for players to regain physical fitness while avoiding high-intensity tactical training which may cause injuries. Meanwhile, we hope to improve players individually and collectively," he said.

Mr. Cheung found the draw of the Asian Cup Qualifiers ideal. "The Hong Kong Representative Team possess the ability to advance from the group. Although the external factors may not be great, I believe we can bring positive energy to the local football community if there is sufficient preparation for the matches," he added. He also encouraged young players participating at the Asian Games to cherish the opportunity and try their best to advance from the group stage.

WONG Wai and NG Wai Him, outfield player and goalkeeper, both expressed the need to work on their physical fitness and hope to fully regain their match fitness after completing the training.

In addition, the Hong Kong Football Association is actively planning overseas training. Subject to the epidemic situation in relevant places, the representative team plans to depart for overseas training in mid or late May and play a friendly match with Malaysia. Under the principle of complying with relevant anti-epidemic regulations and protecting the health of all participating personnel, we will strive to assist players in regaining their match fitness before the Asian Cup Qualifiers kick-off, so that we may achieve good results. The squad for overseas training and competing at the Asian Cup will be announced in due course.

Regarding the final round of the Asian Cup Qualifiers to be held in Kolkata, India, in June, Hong Kong will face India, Afghanistan and Cambodia in Group D. According to the fixture announced by the Asian Football Confederation, the Hong Kong Representative Team will play the first match against Afghanistan at 22:00 on June 8, Cambodia at 18:30 on June 11 and India at 18:30 on June 14.
