2021-22 Sapling Cup (Second Round) – Lee Man 5:0 HKFC


Lee Man and HKFC clashed heads in Mongkok Stadium on New Year’s Day for the second Sapling Cup fixture on Saturday afternoon. Lee Man lit up HKFC with five goals and claimed a 5:0 victory over its opponent in the Sapling Cup encounter.

HKFC came up with a solid scoring chance early in the game. On the 7th minute, Hardikpreet Singh motored down the left side and decided to pull the trigger, only to miss hitting the intended target.

Lee Man gathered itself and went knocking on the HKFC door on the 15th minute. HKFC goalkeeper To Chun-kiu pulled off a super save to turn away a Lee Man shot on goal. However, Kim Seung Yong took care of the rebound and sent the ball home through a neat finish. Lee Man was up 1:0 early in the game.

Lee Man continued to press for the next goal. On the 27th minute, Chang Hei-yin delivered a decent free-kick into the HKFC box and found Diego Moreira. The latter took down the ball nicely but could not hit the target with his shot.

Past the half hour mark, Lee Man finally made it 2:0, as Yuto Nakamura connected with a teammate’s delivery and drilled the ball home through a powerful strike. Lee Man was up by two goals at this point.

It was still Lee Man afterwards. On the 36th minute, a nice build-up by several Lee Man players saw Wong Ho-chun unleashing a rocket drive over the HKFC crossbar. The Hong Kong Island-side dodged a bullet on the occasion.

However, Lee Man was not to be denied and made it 3:0 moments later. HKFC goalkeeper To Chun-kiu managed to turn aside a shot from a Lee Man player. Jonatan Acosta rushed to the scene and headed the ball into the HKFC net.

Late in the first half, Lee Man came close to adding to its lead. However, Chang Hei-yin was unable to convert his header and sent the ball over the HKFC woodwork. Lee Man was enjoying a three-goal lead over HKFC at the interval.

Lee Man started the second half with a bang and added to its lead. On the 48th minute, Wong Ho-chun latched onto a centering pass and smashed the ball home in style. Lee Man was leading by 4:0 at this point.

Lee Man kept attacking the HKFC goal and was rewarded once again. On the 56th minute, Kim Seung Yong’s free-kick was cleared away by HKFC’s Martin Fray. The ball was knocked back straight forward. Yu Wai-lim seized the opportunity and blasted the ball home, making it 5:0 for Lee Man.

Past the hour mark, Lee Man had another scoring chance. Youngster Zachary Hui unloaded a long-range missile towards the HKFC net, only to be stopped by a great flying save from goalkeeper To Chun-kiu.

On the other end, HKFC produced a rare shot towards the Lee Man goal, as Frederik Schipper picked up the ball through a teammate’s pass and let rip, only to see his strike hitting the Lee Man crossbar and staying away from the back of the net.

HKFC tried to break the goose-egg and generated a decent chance to do so on the 73rd minute. Rory Lonergan found himself on the receiving end of a HKFC corner-kick and fired away. However, substitute Lee Man goalkeeper Wilson Ko proved equal to the task and pulled off a smart save.

On the other end, Lee Man threatened the HKFC goal through a counter-attack. Yu Wai-lim drove the ball towards the HKFC net from the top of the penalty area, only to be denied by To Chun-kiu in the HKFC goal.

Late in the game, HKFC’s Antoine Sahaghian unleashed an ambitious strike from distance but could not hit the target.

At the final whistle, Lee Man secured a 5:0 victory over HKFC and claimed all three points from the Sapling Cup encounter.
