2020-21 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League – Lee Man 0:0 Happy Valley
Lee Man and Happy Valley locked horns on an overcast Sunday afternoon in the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground for the last remaining BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the weekend. Lee Man and Happy Valley battled hard throughout ninety minutes but had to settle for an exciting 0:0 draw at the final whistle.
Early in the game, Happy Valley wasted no time and went knocking on the Lee Man door. Midfielder Charlie Scott took up great position at the back-post inside the Lee Man box and re-directed a teammate’s corner-kick delivery towards the net, only to miss the intended target.
Lee Man generated a dangerous scoring chance on the 7th minute, as Jonatan Acosta created havoc down the right wing, danced past several Happy Valley players and made his way into the opposing box. The Argentine attacker pulled the trigger but could not get his shot past goalkeeper To Chun-kiu.
On the 20th minute, it was back to Happy Valley’s turn. Forward Chu Wai-kwan muscled his way past two Lee Man defenders down the right side and found just enough daylight to fire a cheeky left-footer towards goal. However, Chu’s strike lacked pace and did not trouble Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun.
Lee Man had a decent chance to break the game open on the 40th minute. Brazilian forward Martins Givanilton cut towards the middle from the left wing and fired away. However, Givanilton’s shot took a deflection off a Happy Valley player and went out of play.
On the other end, Happy Valley generated probably the best scoring chance in the entire first half. Lively attacker Lai Pui-kei whipped a well-placed free-kick into the Lee Man penalty area. A surging Chu Wai-kwan found himself completely unmarked and nodded the ball towards goal, only to be turned away by a remarkable save from goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun. The game remained scoreless heading into half time.
The match entered a sticky patch early in the second half.
On the 75th minute, Lee Man came up with a solid chance to break the game open. Jonatan Acosta picked out teammate Matins Givanilton down the left wing through a superb diagonal pass. The Brazilian forward motored slightly towards the middle for a better shooting angle and fired away, only to send the ball wide.
It was still Lee Man afterwards. On the 79th minute, Lee Hong-lim unleashed a swirling free-kick towards goal but narrowly missed hitting the target. Lee Man seemed to be gradually taking over the match at this point.
Lee Man probably should have gone in front on the 86th minute, as Yuto Nakamura’s cheeky back-heel found teammate Lee Hong-lim inside the box. Lee did well by whipping in a low cross towards the Happy Valley goal-mouth, yet a sliding Martins Givanilton failed to make contact with the ball at the far-post.
On the 87th minute, Happy Valley’s Jerry Lam carved open the Lee Man defense and found Khan Jahangir down the left wing. The latter pushed forward into the Lee Man box and unleashed a tight angle shot towards goal. Unfortunately for Happy Valley, Khan’s effort was nicely charged away by Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun on the occasion.
Deep in stoppage time, Happy Valley almost found the match-winner. Khan Jahangir found himself with the ball down the left wing and delivered a great centering pass to the middle. Poon Pui-hin made a great run and one-timed the ball, only to send it wide.
Both sides failed to solve each other throughout regulation time, as Lee Man and Happy Valley shook hands on a 0:0 draw at the final whistle.
