2020-21 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League - Kitchee 2:0 Tin Shui Wai Pegasus
Kitchee and Tin Shui Wai Pegasus met up on Thursday night in Mongkok Stadium for an exciting clash in the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League. Dejan Damjanovic got off the Kitchee bench in the second half, netted a brace and powered his side past Tin Shui Wai Pegasus through a 2:0 victory.
Early in the game, Kitchee came up with back-to-back long-range shots, yet efforts from Matthew Orr and Law Tsz-chun both failed to find the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus goal.
On the 9th minute, Tin Shui Wai Pegasus had a glorious chance to break the game open through a counter-attack. Livewire Marcos Da Silva picked up the ball through a teammate’s smart delivery and broke inside the Kitchee penalty area. The Brazilian unleashed a quick shot under pressure but sent the ball wide.
Tin Shui Wai Pegasus kept pressing for the opening goal and came close on the 19th minute, as Marcos Da Silva fired a swirling free-kick from the right wing that soared inches over the Kitchee crossbar.
Past the half hour mark, Kitchee almost drew first blood of the game. Cheng Chin-lung knocked a teasing free-kick deep into the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus box. Helio Goncalves leapt high and sent a dangerous header towards goal, only to be tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Lung Hing-kit.
Kitchee kept the pressure coming afterwards. On the 37th minute, Tong Kin-man connected with a teammate’s centering pass and one-timed the ball straight towards the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus net, only to fire the ball wide.
Momentum swung back to Tin Shui Wai Pegasus’ side late in the first half. On the 40th minute, Law Chun-ting’s cross was blocked by a Kitchee player. The ball fell in front of Lai Kak-yi, who duly unloaded but blasted the ball high.
Tin Shui Wai Pegasus had another scoring chance on the 42nd minute, as a slick buildup play saw Marcos Da Silva running with the ball right outside the Kitchee box. The latter let rip but narrowly missed hitting the target.
Right before the half time whistle, Kitchee’s Matthew Orr unleashed a swirling shot from the right flank but could not get past Leung Hing-kit in the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus goal. The game remained scoreless heading into half time.
Kitchee had a great chance to break the stalemate early in the second half. On the 47th minute, Clement Benhaddouche whipped a dangerous cross into the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus penalty area. Matthew Orr timed his jump perfectly but nodded the ball wide.
Kitchee eventually took the lead on the 57th minute, as Jose Baena squeezed a lovely forward pass into the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus danger area. Substitute Dejan Damjanovic beat an opposing player to the ball and redirected it home through a sliding effort. Kitchee was up 1:0.
On the 82nd minute, Tin Shui Wai Pegasus’ Sun Ming-him was brought down by Kitchee’s Tong Kin-man on a fast break. The referee quickly showed Tong a red card and sent off the Kitchee player. Kitchee was down to ten men late in the game.
On the ensuing free-kick, Tin Shui Wai Pegasus’ Marcos Da Silva unleashed a cracking free-kick towards the Kitchee net, forcing out a superb save from Kitchee goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng.
Deep in stoppage time, Kitchee made it 2:0, as Dejan Damjanovic’s shot took a deflection off a Tin Shui Wai Pegasus player and entered the net.
The 2:0 score stood towards the final whistle, as Kitchee went on to beat Tin Shui Wai Pegasus on the evening and claimed all three points.
