2019-20 HKFA Senior Shield – Eastern Long Lions 1:0 Kwoon Chung Southern
Eastern Long Lions and Kwoon Chung Southern met up in Mongkok Stadium on late Sunday afternoon for a tasty Senior Shield quarter-final clash. Everton Camargo’s goal in the first-half proved to be the eventual match-winner, as Eastern Long Lions edged past Kwoon Chung Southern by 1:0.
Kwoon Chung Southern nearly opened the score in the early minutes. Dhiego Martins fired a great free-kick from the left-side that was beautifully saved by Eastern Long Lions goalkeeper Yapp hung-fai, before hitting the crossbar and staying out of the net.
On the 13th minute, Eastern Long Lions’ Everton Camargo made a great move with teammate Diego Moreira. Everton Camargo unleashed a cracking shot and found the back of the net. Eastern Long Lions were up by a goal.
Eastern Long Lions came close once again on the 20th minute. This time, Clayton Affonso connected with a teammate’s corner-kick delivery but could not get his header past Kwoon Chung Southern goalkeeper Tse Tak-him.
The match took an intriguing turn on the 35th minute, as Eastern Long Lions’ Clayton Affonso and Kwoon Chung Southern’s Zeshan Rehman were both shown the red card by the referee. Both sides were down to ten men.
Kwoon Chung Southern nearly tied the game on the 40th minute, as Travis Major pushed forward with the ball, made it to the Eastern Long Lions box and fired away, only to be turned away by Eastern Long Loins goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai.
Right before half-time, Eastern Long Lions suffered another blow, as Lee Ka-yiu picked up his second yellow card of the game and his marching order. Eastern Long Lions were down to nine players on the field.
Eastern Long Lions came out for the second-half strong and nearly scored its second goal of the game. On the 54th minute, Leung Kwun-chung sent a long-ball forward. Everton Camargo gave chase, took control of the ball and fired from the edge of the box. Unfortunately for the Eastern Long Lions speedster, his shot sailed over the Kwoon Chung Southern crossbar.
On the 62nd minute, Kwoon Chung Southern’s Lau Ka-ming delivered a teasing corner-kick into the Eastern Long Lions box. Carlos Bertoldi leapt high but sent his header wide off target.
Kwoon Chung Southern kept searching for the equalizer. On the 77th minute, Dhiego Martins unleashed a dangerous shot from the top of the box but was turned away by Eastern Long Lions goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai.
Near the end of the game, Kwoon Chung Southern came up with one last chance. On the 90th minute, Carlos Bertoldi connected with a Shay Spitz cross and headed the ball towards the Eastern Long Lions goal, only to be saved by Yapp Hung-fai.
