In a thrilling match at the Sha Tin Racecourse S/G on Last Tuesday, RCFC overcame a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Yau Tsim Mong in the Jockey Club Futsal League FA Cup third-place playoff. RCFC then secured a dramatic victory by winning the penalty shootout 4-1, finishing on the third place in the competition.
Yau Tsim Mong had a strong start and kept the pressure on the RCFC after the opening whistle. On the 10th minute, Tse Chun Choi connected with a left cross from Pang Tsz Wai and fired on the crossbar, sending a warning signal to the RCFC defense. On the 16th minute, Ip Kwok Hei was the first to collect the loose ball and made a powerful shot, Sin Chi Wah cleverly redirected the ball with a deft kick, scoring the opening goal for Yau Tsim Mong. Yau Tsim Mong continued to dominate the game, with Pang Tsz Wai almost doubling the lead after connected with a pass from teammate and making a shot that was barely saved by the goalkeeper. Pang Tsz Wai managed to extend Yau Tsim Mong's lead on the 17th minute, as he picked up a lovely cross from Tse Chun Choi and comfortably struck the ball into the net, making it 2-0.
RCFC, which was down by two goals, managed to mount a comeback towards the end of the first half. On the 19th minute, Tsui King Yau Issac failed to convert his one-one-one chance into goals in a counterattack. However, on the 20th minute, Chung Yan Chiu scored an impressive goal from the left flank, bringing RCFC back into the game. Chung Yan Chiu had two more chances to score before halftime, but both shots were saved by the goalkeeper. Yau Tsim Mong managed to hold onto their lead and finished the half 2-1 ahead.
Both teams displayed a relentless attacking style in the second half. On the 22nd minute, Chan Man Yan picked up a long pass from Tsui King Yau Issac and launched a powerful strike, but the goalkeeper managed to come out in time to make a crucial save. Yau Tsim Mong's Ip Kwok Hei also made a daring diving shot, but unfortunately, it failed to beat the goalkeeper's fingertips. It was only on the 27th minute that RCFC managed to level the score. Tsui King Yau Issac set off an amazing run from the left and delivered a precise pass to the unmarked Chung Yan Chiu, who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net, making it 2-2. Not long after, on the 29th minute, RCFC successfully turned the match around. The skillful Yoong Ka Hei danced through two defenders and burst into the penalty area. Calmly facing the oncoming goalkeeper, he unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the far corner of the net, giving his team a 3-2 lead.
Yau Tsim Mong took control of the last five minutes of the game and produced numerous scoring chances. Pang Tsz Wai made two dangerous attempts from the right side within 1 minute, but both were stopped by the goalkeeper. On the 17th minute, Leung Cheuk Hei capitalized on a defensive mistake from RCFC and scored a fantastic goal, leveling the score. Yau Tsim Mong had a chance to score the winner before late in the game, but Leung Cheuk Hei couldn’t generate enough power in his shot and was easily saved by the goalkeeper. The game ended in a 3-3 draw and was eventually decided by a penalty shootout. RCFC converted all four spot-kicks, while Lam Tsun Wai saved Pang Tsz Wai and Tse Chun Choi's attempts. Finally, RCFC secured the third-place finish with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Yau Tsim Mong.
