Kitchee U18 met up with Eastern U18 in Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground for the Hong Kong Premier Youth League U18-FA Cup final. Matthew Luke Slattery converted a late penalty as Kitchee U18 came from behind two times to snatch a thrilling 2:2 draw in 90 minutes. In a nail-biting penalty shootout, Kitchee U18 emerged victorious, defeating Eastern U18 4-2 to claim the championship title.

In a nail-biting penalty shootout, Kitchee U18 emerged victorious, defeating Eastern U18 4-2 to claim the championship title.

Both teams started the game cautiously and due to the rainy weather, there were few scoring chances early in the game. It was not until the 19th minute that Eastern U18 produced the first scoring opportunity, a free-kick from Lee Chun Ting was slightly deflected by the wall and went just wide. Just a minute later, Eastern U18 broke the deadlock as Choi Kin Sang cross-shot from the right found the unmarked Ho Kin Chun, who tucked the ball in from close-range to make it 1-0. Kitchee U18 tried to respond, and on the 27th minute, Matthew Luke Slattery headed Chan Pak Yin corner kick high at the near post. Kitchee U18 eventually equalized on the 36th minute with a lovely combination on the left flank, Tsang Chun Hin connected with Leung Yat pass and found himself unmarked inside the box, drilling the ball home with ease to make it 1:1.Eastern U18 had chances to take the lead again late in the first half but Choi Kin Sang powerful narrow-angle shot was blocked by defender, and later the Kitchee U18 goalkeeper couldn’t hold Lee Chun Ting's free-kick and caused chaos inside the box, yet Eastern U18 failed to capitalize on the chance and the first half ended in a 1-1 draw.

Just three minutes into the second half, Eastern U18 took the lead once again. Kitchee U18 failed to clear Cheung Kwok Fung corner away, Choi Kin Sang blasted the ball home at the back post to make it 2:1. Kitchee U18 produced lots of cross from both two flanks but only few of them could threaten their opponent.

On the 71st minute, Matthew Luke Slattery cut inside from the left and fired towards the top corner, forcing the goalkeeper to make a brilliant save, and on the 82nd minute, a free-kick attempt from Tsang Chun Hin was gone well wide. With time running out, Kitchee U18 finally managed to level the score in stoppage time. Lam Chin Yu committed a foul in the penalty area and was sent off, Matthew Luke Slattery scored from the penalty spot, making it 2-2 for Kitchee U18.

The game went into a penalty shootout, and Eastern U18 missed shots from Lee Chun Ting and Cheung Kwok Fung, while all four shots by Kitchee U18 went in. In the end, Kitchee U18 won the championship by defeating Eastern U18 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
