Hong Kong is due to meet up with Myanmar on Wednesday evening in Mongkok Stadium for a closed door international friendly match. The fixture will kick-off at 20:00.

It has been almost three years since Hong Kong last played on home turf. While Wednesday night’s game might be played behind closed doors, the fixture is nevertheless still very intriguing, especially for the diehard Hong Kong supporters.

Hong Kong, ranked 147th in the FIFA World Ranking (published on 25th August 2022), will enter the game minus all overseas players, including the likes of Tan Chun-lok, Yue Tze-nam, Matthew Orr and Leung Nok-hang. However, the side still boasts solid quality, including mainstays such as Yapp Hung-fai, Huang Yang and Helio Goncalves. Despite currently out of contract, defender Sean Tse and midfielder Chan Siu-kwan have both been called up by head coach Jorn Andersen, adding steel and bite to a hardworking Hong Kong side.

Up-front, Alexander Akande has finally caught the eyes of Andersen and will be donning Hong Kong colors for the first time since the German tactician took over the Hong Kong head coaching reins. Always hungry for goals, Akande will be eager to showcase his quality in front of Andersen and hoping to earn a regular place in the Hong Kong squad ahead of next year’s AFC Asian Cup Finals.

Myanmar, ranked 158th in the FIFA World Ranking (published on 25th August 2022), arrived Hong Kong on Sunday and has been busy putting on the finishing touches for its preparation for the match against the home side. Led by German head coach Antoine Hey, Myanmar is a typical South East Asian side that plays with a fast tempo. Armed with fleet-footed players who are dynamic and energetic, Hong Kong must be on guard.
