Hong Kong fell behind early in the game. On the 7th minute, China PR’s Zhang Xizhe delivered a teasing corner-kick towards the Hong Kong penalty area. The ball actually dropped inside the Hong Kong box and took another bounce. Ji Xiang dashed in at the back-post and nodded the ball home with ease. China PR was up by a goal as a result.
Hong Kong came up with a great chance to tie the game. On the 16th minute, Giovane Da Silva found daylight and blasted a ferocious shot towards the China PR goal, only to see his strike rung off the crossbar and stayed out of the net.
Past the half-hour mark, Hong Kong was at it again. This time, Wong Wai sent Giovane Da Silva into the China PR box with a lovely forward pass. The latter seized the opportunity and pulled the trigger, only to see his shot nicely saved by China PR goalkeeper Liu Dianzuo.
On the 35th minute, China PR had a half-decent chance to expand its lead. However, veteran Yu Dabao’s acrobatic strike from inside the Hong Kong penalty area failed to hit the intended target.
China PR enjoyed a one-goal lead entering half-time.
In the second-half, Hong Kong tried to mount a comeback. On the 51st minute, Hong Kong’s Tan Chun-lok managed to get off a strike from inside the China PR box but saw his effort hitting Yu Dabao instead of the intended target.
China PR generated a decent scoring chance on the 68th minute, as Li Ang’s free-kick attempt was nicely handled by Hong Kong goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai.
Hong Kong suffered another blow on the 70th minute, as a defender was caught committing a foul inside his own box. The referee quickly pointed to the penalty spot. Zhang Xizhe assumed the spot-kick duty and buried his shot. China PR was now enjoying a two-goal lead.
Afterwards, China PR had another chance to pull further away on the scoreboard, yet substitute Wei Shihao’s header glanced off the Hong Kong crossbar and stayed out of the net.
The score eventually stood towards the final whistle, as Hong Kong dropped a 0:2 decision against China PR.
