Hong Kong will take on China PR in Busan Asiad Main Stadium on Wednesday afternoon for its final match in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019 Final Korea Republic. Kick-off time for the highly-anticipated encounter will be 4:15pm (Busan, Korea Republic local time).

After suffering back-to-back defeats against Korea Republic and Japan, Hong Kong finds itself situated at the basement of the EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019 Final Korea Republic overall standing, without a single point nor goal from its first two matches, while conceding seven goals. A win over China PR on Wednesday will see Hong Kong moving away from the basement position and that has to be the main target of the team at the present moment.    

Tough-as-nails Hong Kong midfielder Tan Chun-lok reveals the team has gone through match-tapes of China PR but has yet to decide on a certain strategy against its opponent on Wednesday afternoon.

“As a team, we have gone through the match-tapes of China PR already but we have not spoken about any specific game-plan for Wednesday. At the end of the day, you just want to get better from game-to-game,” Tan disclosed.

“Having said that, we conceded two goals from set-pieces against Korea Republic, while we were also exposed defensively against Japan, hence we really need to look at ourselves, clean things up defensively and try to go on from there.”

Ranked 75^th in the FIFA World Ranking (published by FIFA on 28^th November 2019), China PR seems to present a David vs Goliath-type of matchup for Hong Kong. However, the side currently shares the same winning-loss record as Hong Kong in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019 Final Korea Republic, after suffering losses against Japan and Korea Republic in its opening two matches.

At the time of writing, China PR sits in the third spot in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019 Final Korea Republic standing, just above Hong Kong due to goal-difference and is looking for a victory to wrap up the tournament on a positive note.

Forward Dong Xuesheng found the back of the net against Japan and his goal has proven to be the only marker of China PR so far in the tournament. Veteran Yu Dabao went from forward-to-defender and his vast experience will be crucial to China PR’s attempt to nullify Hong Kong’s advances.
