Cambodia responded in the 11th minute, as Sa Ty unleashed a long-range effort that sailed over the crossbar. Moments later, Brak Thiva tried his luck from the right flank but couldn't find the target.
Hong Kong,China threatened again in the 16th minute when Yu Joy Yin Jesse whipped in a dangerous cross from the right, with Oliver Gerbig’s near-post effort narrowly missing the upright.
The hosts came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute. Everton Camargo cut inside from the right wing and unleashed a curling shot that grazed the outside of the post.
As Hong Kong,China began to dominate proceedings, Matthew Orr tested the keeper with a powerful drive from Stefan Pereira's left-wing delivery in the 23rd minute. Two minutes later, Matthew Orr unleashed another thunderbolt from the edge of the box that whistled wide.
The breakthrough finally came in the 29th minute. Walter Junior‘a initial shot was parried by the keeper, but he regained possession and delivered a pinpoint cross for the unmarked Matthew Orr to slot home, putting Hong Kong,China 1:0 up.
Matthew Orr nearly doubled the lead in the 34th minute, latching onto Everton Camargo’s through ball, but his one-on-one effort was thwarted by the Cambodian shot-stopper.
The hosts didn't have to wait long for their second, though. A minute later, Everton Camargo raced onto Walter Junior's defense-splitting pass and expertly chipped the onrushing keeper, giving Hong Kong,China a comfortable 2:0 lead at the interval.
Cambodia came out fighting in the second half, with Kan Mo’s header from Taylor Doeung Nicolas’ set-piece was easily gathered by the goalkeeper in the 48th minute.
Hong Kong,China responded with chances of their own, as Leon Jones' glancing header from a right-wing free-kick drifted wide, before Walter Junior fired off target from inside the box.
The visitors refused to give up, creating several opportunities. Determined to keep a clean sheet, Hong Kong,China regained control in the closing stages. Benavides Nicholas came close to adding a third in the 87th minute, but his effort from a tight angle was well saved.
The hosts put the icing on the cake in stoppage time. Walter Junior collected Sun Ming Him's pass and unleashed a powerful drive from the edge of the area that took a wicked deflection off a Cambodian defender, wrong-footing the keeper and nestling in the far corner. The final whistle blew with Hong Kong,China securing an impressive 3:0 victory over Cambodia.
