Islands had the upper hand in possession after the opening whistle and James was a constant threat on the right flank. On the 3rd minute, James connected with a pass from teammate inside the box, but his right-footed shot was just out of bounds. It was Sha Tin’s turn on the 11th minute. Cohen cut in from the right side to the edge of the box and pulled the trigger, the goalkeeper could only see the ball go into the net, giving Sha Tin a 1:0 lead.

Islands, who were trying to fight back into the game, had a chance to score in the 16th minute, when Chiu Lok Fai picked up a long pass from a teammate, but he failed to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one, James was the first one to the loose ball, but his rebound shot missed the target. On the 27th minute, James took a free kick shot from in front of the box, but again the goalkeeper was able to parry it away. Islands’ effort was finally rewarded in the 28th minute, Lee Ho Long scored by a low drive outside the box and tied the game at 1-1. Two minutes later, Islands had a chance to take the lead, but James’s penalty kick went high over the bar. The first half finished up with Sha Tin and Islands locked in a 1:1 draw.

In the second half, Sha Tin gradually took over the game after adjustment. Wong Ho Ching took a fine pass from a teammate and fired a tight angle shot but was punched out by the goalkeeper, while Cohen's effort in the 45th minute also failed to get past the goalkeeper. Sha Tin finally took the lead again in the 55th minute. A long pass from Cohen released Leung Yuk Ho and the latter races clear of the defense and finished superbly to make it 2:1.

Sha Tin extended their lead on the 63rd minute. Lai Chun Pong took advantage of the misjudgment from the Islands goalkeeper and finished the ball home easily, making it 3:1. Both teams failed to add to the score afterwards, as Sha Tin defeated Islands with a 3:1 victory to claim all three points.
