A steady stream of spectacular and crucial saves in the Tin Shui Wai Pegasus net saw local goalkeeper Leung Hing-kit being named as the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League MVP (April 2021) , co-chosen by The Football Association of Hong Kong, China and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association.

The thirty-one year-old Leung played his youth football with HK09, before moving on to professional clubs such as Rangers and South China, eventually establishing himself in top flight football. Affectionately nicknamed “09” by his peers due to the player’s time spent with HK09, Leung admitted he was caught off guard by the latest MVP honor, but singled out the entire Tin Shui Wai Pegasus family for praise.

“First and foremost, I need to thank Tin Shui Wai Pegasus club management, coaches and staff members for their support,” Leung expressed. “My teammates competed hard for me on the pitch and the supporters cheered me on from the stands, I am fully aware of all of these as well.”

“With this MVP honor in arm, it presents me with the perfect opportunity to thank every single one of them.”

A closer look at the numbers (drawn until 17^th May 2021) will show that Leung has started seventeen games in all competitions for Tin Shui Wai Pegasus this season, recording four clean sheets in the process. While the New Territories side might have racked up three wins and one loss from four April outings, it should also be noted that all three victories came after Tin Shui Wai Pegasus had conceded the opening goal in respective matches. The importance of Leung shutting the door firmly after allowing the opening goal with saves after saves, were indeed instrumental to Tin Shui Wai Pegasus’ April success.  

“After grinding through the better half of the domestic season and finding ourselves at the top half of the premier league table, of course we would like to empty our tank at the final stretch and push for the best possible results,” Leung revealed.

“From a personal standpoint, I have always wanted to get back into the Hong Kong Representative Team squad and play for Hong Kong in international matches.”

Leung’s on-field brilliance has been undeniable this season, and the sure-handed custodian also attributed family support as the key to his football success.

“The birth of my son has made me grow up so much, making me a harder working person, both on and off the pitch,” Leung explained.

“In truth, the full support of my family has allowed me to become more focused on the pitch, therefore I really want to give a big shoutout to my dear wife and lovely son for their unyielding support.”
