Wofoo Tai Po striker Igor Torres Sartori nets HKPL MVP honor (April & May, 2019)

There is no doubt that Wofoo Tai Po striker Igor Torres Sartori’s superb display up front throughout this season deserves recognition. The Brazilian netted five goals from six games of all competitions in April and May. Such outstanding figures eventually make him to be named as the winner of the Hong Kong Premier League MVP Trophy (April & May 2019), co-handed out by The Football Association of Hong Kong, China and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association.

Sartori won the HKPL monthly MVP Award for the first time in April & May of 2017-18 season, now by claiming this award in the same months of this season, the Brazilian forward has expressed his excitement with mentioning that this might be a consequence of the team winning the title of the league.

“Of course I feel very happy. I remember I won this award in the same months of last season, April & May. Maybe my performance in the last months is always better. I am also so excited that the team won the champion of the league this season. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and staff, fans and everyone who supports us all along this season.”

Wofoo Tai Po recorded eight wins and one draw in the second half of this season, and finally won the title for the first time of their history with 41 points in the league table. Sartori’s solid contribution has been essential to the team’s success. He has made 18 appearances for Wofoo Tai Po in the league this season, scored eight times and made 12 assists, becoming the best creator among all players in HKPL.

Despite creating the outstanding personal statistic this season, Sartori stated that he is not the only player the team who has been doing very well.

“I think Wofoo Tai Po is the best team in Hong Kong this year for sure. Everybody played very well and stayed focus on the title race. I think I have also grown up with the team together.”

This is Sartori’s second season playing in Hong Kong, he agrees that this is his best season ever in his HKPL career.

“Absolutely. This is the best season I have ever had in Hong Kong Premier League. I think I played much better than last season.”

Wofoo Tai Po has already finished all local competitions of this season with only two AFC Cup group matches left in June. Asking about his future, Sartori said, “I have no comments now, I just want to enjoy this amazing moment first. We will see.”
