The ever-powerful Thailand U14 put on an excellent showing and took home the championship title in an all-conquering manner, winning all of its three games, while tournament host Hong Kong managed to edged Laos U14 and Mongolia U14 and came up with the second-place.
Hong Kong U14 started the tournament rather slowly, only drawing Laos U14 in the opening game. The host then met up against Thailand U14 and despite a much-improved performance, fell short against the South East Asian side by 0:4. Heading into the final match day, Hong Kong U14 turned things up a notch hoping to secure its first victory in the tournament. At the end, the players did not disappoint and overcame Mongolia U14 by 3:0, finishing the competition with a record of one win, one draw and one loss, nailing down a respectful second-place.
Midfielder Chan Wing-lum was trusted with the captain's armband for the three matches and the Hong Kong U14 skipper spoke about her appreciation for the passionate Hong Kong faithful who showed up and supported the team throughout the competition.
“I am very proud to be able to lead the team out in front of so many family members, friends and Hong Kong supporters. The chanting from the stands never stopped during the game and that really drove us players on and kept us running. I hope the team can keep improving down the road and repay everyone's love and support for us,” said the Hong Kong U14 captain.
Hong Kong U14 striker Sneha Limbu opened lots of eyes with her aggressive and hardworking playing style up-front. The Hong Kong U14 forward touched on the honor of representing Hong Kong on the international stage.
“This is my first time ever representing Hong Kong on the international stage. It is certainly a very memorable occasion for myself. We entered the final match day still looking for our first victory of the competition, therefore everyone really gave it their best shot, hoping to securing a win for the team. We are all happy that it finally happened and I thought our performance throughout the tournament has been very encouraging,” said the lively striker.
