The annual Top Footballer Voting is once again fast-approaching.
What makes this season's voting campaign truly unique is the fact that selected Hong Kong Premier League players will each nominate one character from the extremely popular Mr. Men Little Miss cartoon series to represent himself in the voting campaign.
Kitchee's all-smiling Fernando Pedreira found his match in the form of Mr. Cheerful and the all-smiling partnership should receive quite some attention throughout the campaign. “I took part in the promotion work for last season's Top Footballer voting but did not return home with any trophy. That motivated me to do better for my team this season and hopefully, I will be rewarded this time around,” said the smiling Brazilian. “Mr. Cheerful is someone who is just like your typical Brazilian, always cheerful and happy. I am spending most of my working time around football and that is why I am always so happy. I always try to play with a smile in training and matches, that shows you how much I enjoy the game.”
Lau Hok-ming, a fast-improving player in the Dreams Metro Gallery side, hopes teaming up with Mr. Tall, a lookalike to Lau himself, can help create a stronger impression on potential voters. “Like myself, Mr. Tall is a lanky dude and hopefully, when the voters see Mr. Tall, they will instantly think of myself.” The personably Lau then went on and offered an assessment on his own performance this season so far. “This is pretty much my first full season playing in the Hong Kong Premier League and I thought I did quite okay. At the end of the day, you need to receive regular playing time to improve and I have been quite lucky in that sense.”
Kwoon Chung Southern's Michael Luk, regularly putting his football talent and skills on display, has received the warm support from Little Miss Wise, forming a well-matched duo. “Little Miss Wise sounds very similar to myself, who needs to play with smarts on the pitch while hoping to create scoring opportunities for the team through slick passes and goals,” Luk said with a grin. “Regarding my prediction on the Top Footballer Award, “Ah Fai” (Eastern goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai) should be a really strong choice. His performance on the pitch speaks for itself and having played together in the same team previously, I can tell you that he trains very hard and is a well-deserving candidate for the trophy.”
Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin's midfielder Yoon Donghun has Mr. Cool as his campaign partner. Besides the South Korean's all-action display on the pitch, the gentleman off the field also hopes to do his country proud while playing in Hong Kong. “As a foreigner in the Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin squad, I am very aware that I represent not only the district team but my country as well. South Korea is a leading football country in Asia and therefore I cannot put my country in shame,” Yoon explained.
The likable South Korean then went ahead and offered his personal favourite on this year's Top Footballer award. “Kitchee's Lam Ka-wai is a very skillful player and plays a very smart game. With his talent and capabilities, he should have no problem playing in the K-League.”
