On Wednesday (October 29th), Kowloon City claimed a crucial 1:0 victory over Eastern District at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground in the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League, securing all three points.
The visitors broke the deadlock early, finding the back of the net just seven minutes in. Ho Lung Ho threaded a pass to the edge of the box, and when Eastern District's backline failed to clear their lines, Luiz Humberto pounced on the loose ball and rifled a left-footed strike into the far corner to put Kowloon City ahead.
Eastern District looked to respond immediately from a set piece. Aleksandar Andric let fly with a direct free kick that cannoned into the wall, before Takatori Seito's speculative long-range follow-up was snuffed out by the Kowloon City rearguard.
The hosts continued to pile on the pressure. Aleksandar Andric whipped in a dangerous free kick from the left flank, but Bruno Luiz couldn't get a clean connection in the six-yard box melee, squandering a gilt-edged chance.
The half-time whistle blew with Kowloon City holding a slender 1:0 advantage.
Eastern District came out with renewed vigour after the restart. In the 53rd minute, Aleksandar Andric's corner kick from the right found Kuach Yuel unmarked at the back post, and he slotted home from point-blank range. However, the celebrations were cut short as the referee, following a VAR check, chalked off the goal for a Leon Jones handball in the build-up.
Eastern District's afternoon went from bad to worse three minutes later when Matheus Favali received his marching orders after picking up a second booking for a reckless challenge.
Reduced to ten men, Eastern District refused to sit back. In the 68th minute, Aleksandar Andric's in-swinging corner was met by Bruno Bianconi’s powerful header, but the Kowloon City shot-stopper was equal to it.
The hosts were handed a lifeline in the 81st minute when Kuach Yuel burst into the box down the left channel and was felled by Lee Chun Ting's lunging tackle. Aleksandar Andric stepped up to take the spot-kick, but his effort was denied by a brilliant save from the keeper.
Eastern District threw everything forward in search of a late equaliser. Bruno Luiz came agonisingly close when his header from Aleksandar Andric’s left-sided corner rattled the woodwork. In a desperate final push, Eastern District keeper Paulo Cesar even joined the attack for a corner, but his goal-mouth scramble effort was kept out by the alert Kowloon City custodian.
When the final whistle sounded, Kowloon City held on for a hard-fought 1:0 win, banking all three points on the road.
